A weekend in Paris with WAES

Paris… the city of love, lights, and… croissants! In the summer of ’22, Martijn and Rik went on a roadtrip with Fabio and his wife, Thami. Why? Because Paris is a lovely city, only a five-hour drive, and Fabio and Thami got engaged in front of the Eiffel Tower in 2018.

It was an early morning in July when the adventure started. After meeting at the WAES office in Eindhoven, Fabio, Thami, Martijn, and Rik left for Paris. Time for a roadtrip! The trip from Eindhoven to Paris takes about five hours, so after listening to a shared Spotify playlist and getting to know each other better… time flew by!

The hotel was located in Montmartre, once a haven for the artists and bohemians of Paris. Now a charming village inside the city of Paris. We were staying at the Appart’hôtel Odalys City Montmartre, just behind the Basilica of Sacré-Cœur.

I'm really thankful for WAES to give me this opportunity. I will always remember this.

Recreating memories

In 2018, when Fabio and Thami were still living in Paris, they were on a roundtrip through different European places. Before the couple left for Europe, Fabio already planned to propose to Thami in front of the Eiffel Tower. Actually, he wanted to propose to her inside the Eiffel Tower restaurant… but that was closed due to renovation at that time 😉 Nevertheless… it was super romantic ❤️

One of the reasons to go back to Paris, was to recreate the memories of that magical moment in 2018. Martijn and Rik brought some polaroid copies of the photos Fabio and Thami took back then.

Our Paris favorites

Hardware Societé
Looking for one of the best breakfasts in Paris? Go to the Hardware Societé. The Hardware Societé is located in a not-so-typical Montmartre street… in the shadows of the Sacré-Cœur. The super-friendly staff serves a menu that has both Australian and European influences. You might have to stand in line for a bit… but we can assure you: it’s worth it!

La Mascotte
The Montmartre spirit is still very much alive at La Mascotte, a typical French brasserie specialised in seafood. With its Art Deco décor, the restaurant looks as if it hadn’t been touched in years. La Mascotte is known for the fruits de mer – or seafood – platters. Make sure to enjoy a good glass of Chablis, and imagine yourself in a French movie from the 1960s.

52 Rue des Abbesses, Paris

Mamiche
One of the best bread experiences we’ve ever had! This small bakery has so much to offer! Baguette with ham, cheese and butter. Cinnamon rolls. Sourdough bread. Chocolate cookies. You name it… and you will love it! What else should we say, just go there!

45 Rue Condorcet, Paris

Lavomatic
Hidden behind the facade of a laundry service, you will find a hidden gem of Paris. After making your way through the washing machine-door entrance, you enter Lavomatic. A speakeasy bar that serves a broad selection of cocktails. The hiphop-loving staff at this place totally understands the vibe, you won’t be disappointed.
