Server Side Chat: Smarter AI & Kotlin Multiplatform

Location
Innovation Powerhouse, Zwaanstraat 31N, Eindhoven

For this edition of Server Side Chat, we’re bringing you two exciting talks from passionate engineers who love pushing boundaries — from smarter AI system design to the real-world possibilities of Kotlin Multiplatform.

🎤 Speaker 1: Raphael De Lio – Developer Advocate at Redis

Talk: Reduce LLM calls with Vector Search Design Patterns

LLMs are powerful, but overusing them quickly becomes expensive, slow, and energy-hungry. What if you could offload common tasks like classification, routing, and caching without reaching for a massive model every time?

Raphael will show you how to use vector search and semantic design patterns to:

  • Classify intent without tokens or prompts

  • Route requests based on meaning instead of brittle rules

  • Reuse answers through semantic caching to cut costs

This session is all about building smarter, leaner systems with embeddings and lightweight logic — less waste, more control, and no complex ML pipelines needed.

🎤 Speaker 2: Gabryel Monteiro – Backend Software Developer at WAES

Talk: Exploring Kotlin Multiplatform Possibilities

Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) has grown beyond Android into the backend world, and now even into iOS, the browser, desktop apps, and embedded systems. But how far can you really take "write once, run anywhere"?

With a decade of backend experience, Gabryel put KMP to the test: building five clients (Android, iOS, Web, Desktop, CLI) and two servers (Spring Boot and NodeJS). In this talk, he’ll share where the dream of seamless cross-platform development shines — and where the reality hits limits.

🍕 There will be pizzas and drinks (free).
